WINNER of the Mandurah 9x5 Art Prize
“The Mother of All Storms” has won first place in the 9x5 Mandurah Art Prize. What an honour!
Following the theme of "water" for this year's 9x5 art prize at Alcoa Mandurah Art Gallery, my response was to capture one of my early memories of the ocean, in its wildest form - as I knew it. This painting is based on a 1986 photo of my mother at the helm of our yacht, amidst a massive storm swell which we sailed through as a family of 7, for three long days. We were on a 3 month sailing journey, and this us was passing the waters of Madagascar. I was 3 years old at the time, and below deck.

The 2022 Mandurah 9x5 Art Prize opening was an overwhelming success.
Between around 300 people attended the award presentations and exhibition opening, giving their full support to our thriving arts community and the artists involved.
Thank you to the judges Deputy Mayor Caroline Knight, CASM Curator Carolyn Marks and City of Mandurah Arts Development Officer Jessica Wright for their wonderful selections for the winners of each category.
Thanks also to Hon David Templeman MLA for his support and words during the speeches.
The prizes on offer were generously supported by our sponsors City of Mandurah, Terrace Art Framers, Advanced Personnel Management, Alcoa, Westurn Engineering, Mandurah Plein Air Artists, Peel Chamber of Commerce and Industry Inc. and Jacksons Drawing Supplies. With the support of these wonderful sponsors we were able to offer 12 prizes, which we genuinely appreciate.
