botanical line drawings
My botanical line drawings are the end product of a long process. I go foraging for fallen native botanical flowers and plants, or photograph them growing in their natural environment, usually while out in my neighbourhood bushlands. These become my references for composition and executing the final piece. My favourite place to get a variety of photo references is King’s Park, Perth. Their Banksia Garden holds a huge variety of the species. In studio, I use a large monitor when working off photo references, as well as a good quality desk lamp for extra lighting. My monochrome botanical drawings are drawn with Sakura Pigma Micron Japanese ink pens, which are of superior archival quality, have a gorgeous consistency of ink, and are available in super fine nibs, down to 0.03mm. The cream coloured paper on my originals is a recycled eco paper that is made from 95% recycled take-away coffee cups.
